Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

November 9, 2004

Commenced: 6:30 p.m.


Treasurer’s Reports:

1. Status of bank accounts: RO reviewed details of Club bank account; income includes refund for returned tickets; expenses include GT/MD football tickets

2. Dues Received: family membership dues from Ed & Claudia Yanacek and Brian & Lee Salter; dues have been revised to $15 for both family and individual memberships


Secretary’s Reports:

1. Correspondence: LS turned taxation letter over to RO; RO indicated he would follow-up and resolve

2. New membership applications:

Emily Muhlberger (REMOVED FOR PRIVACY), first year alumni

Aleksandar Vukojevic (REMOVED FOR PRIVACY), first year alumni

Brian & Lee Salter (REMOVED FOR PRIVACY), family membership

Ed & Claudia Yanacek (REMOVED FOR PRIVACY), family membership

3. CF suggested writing welcome letters to new members; CF indicated that he would send notes to all members of whom he has email addresses.

4. Newsletter status: follow-up with Doc; shoot for early February


Committee reports:

Recruiting:

1. High school fairs the Club participated in: Mount St. Joseph, Anne Arundel Community College & Cardinal Gibbons

2. Did not participate in Howard County College Fair this year; follow-up with for next year

Scholarship:

1. Given current balance of bank account, all agreed that the Club should offer a $500 scholarship to an incoming freshman (no matching from GT available); successful applicant will be chosen based on activities, academics and essays

2. Application deadline for GT Presidential Scholarship was October 30th; associated Club interviews to begin in late January/early February; GT to forward list of candidates to MM and he will contact them regarding interviews

Young Alumni:

1. Allison Sapp contacted LS regarding planning winter Young Alumni event; LS to follow-up

2. JT suggested Cosmic Bowl at Glen Burnie Bowl (Fridays and Saturdays 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.)

3. CF suggested Baltimore Blast soccer game


Old Business

1. Roll Call & AT Fund: 58th Roll Call in progress; associated Club success based on number of alumni donating as opposed to total dollar value

2. Update List of Officers: CF to forward updated Club officers list to GTAA; JT to update website with officer’s pictures

3. Team Buzz: CF & RO participated in planting at Catonsville Senior Center


New Business:

1. End of Year Reports: CF & RO

2. Club Tier Report: GT Club of Baltimore a Tier 2 club

3. Club Dinner Event: look at having dinner event with GT speaker in Spring

4. GT Basketball Watching:

a. Plan game watching event for GT/MD basketball game, Sunday, January 30th at 5:30 p.m.

b. Miami & Virginia Tech games to be considered as well

c. Locations: Champs at Columbia Mall – will they reserve for groups??

5. GT Athletics: GT Women’s tennis at MD (April 2nd); GT Men’s Tennis at MD (April 8th); GT Women’s Basketball at MD (February 3rd); GT Lacrosse in Baltimore??

6. Sister Clubs:

a. DC Club of Baltimore: have nice fleece jacket with simple GT logo selling for reasonable price (think our logo looks like New Mexico instead of Baltimore)

b. Delaware Valley Club (Philadelphia, NJ & Delaware): we’ll try to plan combined activity

7. Lessons/Suggestions from Leadership GT:

a. Provide link on website for relocated alumni

b. Challenges with getting young alumni involved: generation gap; transient (only in area for 2-3 years); monetary concerns; want to take a “break” from GT

c. Allowing payment for Club events/membership electronically through Pay Pal

d. Offering lifetime memberships and soliciting corporations to help build scholarship endowment
