Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m.


President’s Reports:

P20.1 TC presented Club officer nominations for 2003-2004; committee approved as follows:


President: TC

Treasurer: RO

Secretary: LS


P20.2 GTAA updates: Laurie Sparks no longer at GTAA; Ron Carrier hired as assistant director of alumni giving; 2003-2004 Roll Call drive underway, Club goal is to increase number of area alumni giving by 1% over last year’s number, Club goal is 189 donors from Baltimore area, GTAA to track Club officer’s giving (request donation by Leadership GT); nomination forms for this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni and George Griffen Awards are now available.


P20.3 Leadership GT: Leadership GT to be held October 23rd and 24th; GTAA to cover hotel expenses for (1) person from Club; Frank and Dawn Mess have offered to house people; TC definitely attending, LJ to consider attending.


P20.4 TC received solicitation e-mail from Celecast asking that we promote their service; LS to contact GTAA to determine whether or not company is affiliated with GTAA; if so, Club to include link on website.


P19.1 New GTAA Club Rules: 5-tier system (4 Club, 1 Corporate) will be implemented; Jane Stoner (JS) is to follow-up and let us know what our Club’s status is; TC to contact JS to discuss our status as “start-up” club; TC discussed new GTAA support outline based on tier:

Tier 1: (3) electronic invitations per year; (2) newsletter mailings; Leadership GT attendance mandatory, all expenses paid.

Tier 2: (2) electronic invitations per year; (2) newsletter mailings.

Tier 3: (1) electronic invitation per year; (1) newsletter mailing: no expenses paid for Leadership GT.

Tier 4: (1) newsletter mailing; no expenses paid for Leadership GT.

GTAA will provide electronic mailing list of all alumni in Club area and requires quarterly report back regarding return addresses (LS to contact JS to request); depending on Club’s tier status, we may need to elect Vice President.


M20 Per TC, GT Club of Baltimore is under Tier-2 guidelines.


P19.2 TC to follow-up with GTAA regarding Club survey previously submitted for distribution.


M20 Per TC, survey was distributed; it will take the Alumni Association a couple of weeks to process.


Treasurer’s Reports:

T20.1 RO presented Treasurer’s Report.


T20.2 LS forwarded membership dues from George Church (individual) and Maurice Furchgott (individual) to RO; LS forwarded payment for Young Alumni Baseball Game Outing from Allison Roberts and Vance Russell to RO.


T20.3 Club reimbursed LS for purchase of stamps and baseball game tickets.


Secretary’s Reports:

S19.1 LS to update Club membership roster based on 2003-2004 membership dues received and forward to Executive Committee.


M20 LS passed list out for review; LS to e-mail electronic copy to Executive Committee.


S19.3 TC received several e-mails from local alumni requesting information on upcoming Club events; TC to forward e-mail addresses to LS.


S17.2 LS to complete and distribute past due meeting minutes.


Committee Reports:

Newsletter

C20.1 Frequency of newsletter distribution was discussed; all agreed twice a year is adequate.


C19.1 LS to follow-up with Doc Lumpkins (DL) regarding fall newsletter progress and request draft copy; all agreed that once yearly GTAA newsletter allotment would be used for fall newsletter.


M20 DL e-mailed draft copy; TC sent updated “Letter from President” article; call for dues to be added; LJ to compile recruiting article and forward to DL; MM to compile scholarship article and forward to DL; TC to forward pictures from picnic to DL.


Community Involvement:

C19.2 Team Buzz Day: Scheduled for 2nd or 3rd week in October, TC to verify; per LS indicated that Catonsville Senior Center is always looking for volunteers to help out; LS to contact Catonsville Senior Center to determine what type of volunteer work they need currently.


M20 Team Buzz Day to be held Saturday, October 18, 2003; LS sent contact information to JS.


Programs/Activities

C20.2 Men’s Lacrosse Game: GTAA contacted TC regarding upcoming Men’s Lacrosse game vs. BYU to be played on February 28, 2003 at Johns Hopkins’ Homewood Field in Baltimore; all agreed that Club should organize an event for game and invite D.C. Club to join us; TC to contact alumnus Greg Fox (GF) regarding coordinating event.


C19.4 Football Watching: All agreed to hold football game watching events at the Colesium in Cockeysville again this year.


M20 Per TC, attendance at Football Watching has been low.


C17.3 Dinner Events: TC recommended scanning Alumni Association speakers list to prepare for next year; academic and athletic choices (first, second and third choices for each.)


M18 TC reiterated request for speaker choices to forward to GTAA.


M19 TC recommended the Club plan for November and April dinner events; TC recommended that the Club consider holding future dinner events at Snyder’s Willow Grove in Linthicum again, sited their hospitality, good prices and convenient location; the quantity of GTAA speakers the Club qualifies for is yet to be determined (either one or zero); TC recommended looking locally for speakers; FM recommended contacting Pat Nettles, GT alumni and CEO of Sienna.


M20 GTAA to provide speaker for (1) dinner event; TC to request either Major General George Harrison or Edward Reedy for the first or second week of November.


Promotions/Merchandising: No new information.


Recruiting

C20.3 Per LJ, the Club has been registered for (4) college fairs to date:

Calvert Hall, September 24th; TC to represent Club

Poly, October 2nd; DL to represent Club

St. Joe/Cardinal Gibbons, October 21st; OPEN

Howard County, October 19th, Mike (MM) and Van McKenna to represent Club


C20.4 TC received box of recruiting materials from Mary Ester at GTAA for Calvert Hall College Fair.


Scholarship: No new information.


Web-Site/Web Master: No new information.


Young Alumni Committee

C20.5 LS to contact alumnae Allison Roberts (AR) and LaTasha Washington (LW) regarding coordinating Young Alumni Committee outdoor event for fall.


C17.9 LS/CM to coordinate baseball game outing and pre-game cookout for August 16, 2003.


M18 LS sent notification to GTAA for distribution.


M19 RO to contact associate regarding availability of group seating for baseball game.


M20 Baseball game follow-up: (7) attendees; ticket prices were higher than expected because game was sold-out but all attendees elected to reimburse LS for price difference.
